Harry W. and Irene L. Staley Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide a scholarship to a graduating Pittsford Central School District high school seniors judged by the administration to be the student who best exemplifies volunteerism through their activities in school, the community, church, and/or wherever the student sees an opportunity. Award alternates between Pittsford-Sutherland High School (odd years) and Pittsford-Mendon High School (even years).

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $1,500; paid in one lump sum in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For a graduating Pittsford Central School District high school senior who is continuing their education at a college or university.

Criteria emphasis is on volunteerism (school, community, church, and/or wherever student sees an opportunity). Financial need is not a consideration.

Preference is given to students who participate in school and/or community activities. Additionally, the award alternates between Pittsford-Sutherland High School (odd years) and Pittsford-Mendon High School (even years).

Application Process

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of committee nominations and does not accept applications. The nomination process is coordinated through Pittsford Mendon High School (even years) or Pittsford Sutherland High School High School (odd years).

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Pittsford Mendon High School or Pittsford Sutherland High School. A committee at the high school selects one outstanding student to receive an award and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in June. Payment is mailed to the college for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.


Donor Information

This scholarship was created by Dolores S. Stover (Dee) in memory of her parents, natives of Ilion, New York, who both were dedicated volunteers. The Pittsford School District was chosen because Dick and Dee Stover lived there in the later years of their marriage.
