How Jordan’s work fuels the power of community:

As the president of the CFA Society of Rochester, Jordan Millner brings more than investment expertise to the table — he brings a deep sense of purpose. His work, both in the financial sector and in the classroom, is fueled by a commitment to community, authenticity, and service. Whether he’s volunteering, teaching, or supporting clients, Jordan shows how leading with values can result in lasting impact.

For Jordan, professional growth and community connection go hand-in-hand. As a long-standing member — and now president — of the CFA Society of Rochester, he’s watched the local chapter grow. “The CFA Society has been a wonderful source of connection with investment professionals both near and far,” Jordan says.

That spirit of collaboration is a big reason why Jordan is enthusiastic about the annual summer social co-hosted by the CFA Society and the Community Foundation. The summer social encourages emerging professionals to build relationships, expand their networks, and have fun doing it.

“CFAs, by and large, tend to not be the most extroverted bunch,” he laughs. “This event allows us collectively to get out of our shell and expand our professional and social networks.” Jordan shares that partnering with the Community Foundation on summer socials over the years has allowed the CFA Society to interact with local professionals beyond their own members.

Jordan’s advice for client conversations:

With more than 15 years of industry experience and a commitment to continued learning, Jordan is passionate about helping others navigate the markets and their own intentions.

When it comes to guiding clients in conversations about charitable giving, his approach is simple: lead with authenticity. “I have seen how rewarding it can be when clients (and even myself) move beyond writing a periodic check to take direct action upon what they’re passionate about and would like to improve.”

His advice to other advisors? Don’t underestimate the power of listening. By understanding what matters most to clients, advisors can help them shape philanthropic goals that align with their values and their vision for the world.

Jordan’s commitment to service was sparked at an early age by someone whose message struck a chord. He donated $10 to the V Foundation for cancer research after being moved by Coach Jim Valvano’s legendary ESPY speech. “Coach Valvano spoke from the heart about something that, while personally impacting him in a profound way, extended well beyond himself,” Jordan remembers. Even if words like charity and philanthropy do not move your clients, connection to sports or other passions might inspire them to give back.

Service to others and support for students:

Jordan’s philanthropy is deeply personal, shaped by his faith and his belief in the transformative power of education. His connection to Jesuit teachings — especially the balance of academic rigor and service to others — informs how and where he chooses to give back.

Most recently, Jordan brought that philosophy into the classroom as an adjunct professor of Finance at St. John Fisher University’s Salerno School of Business. For him, it’s not just about teaching technical skills, but about supporting students through one of the most formative times in their lives. “I remember what it was like to be in my early twenties,” Jordan says. He tries to help students navigate the anxieties and excitement of early adulthood with empathy and real-world insight.

Charitable involvement in Rochester:

In addition to the CFA Society of Rochester, Jordan has volunteered with Penfield Little League and Junior Achievement — reflecting his commitment to mentorship, youth development, and community connection. Whether guiding young athletes on the field or inspiring students in the classroom, Jordan sees the role of coach as more than a title; it’s a grounding force that helps shape confident teammates and thoughtful citizens alike.
