How Marcus’s work fuels the power of community:As an attorney focused in estate planning and elder law, Marcus is incredibly passionate about championing philanthropy – both on the job and in his free time. For the Pittsford native, educating clients on the importance of proactive estate planning is about being sensitive to a discussion of one’s own mortality – often a barrier that delays the process. Marcus says he always looks to Rochester Area Community Foundation when clients need knowledgeable guidance on charitable giving when these sensitive topics arise. “It’s a powerful partnership,” says Marcus. “As a professional, I have access to the breadth of all the resources the foundation has to offer for my clients. All parties can win.”
Charitable involvement in Rochester:Marcus first became involved with the Community Foundation through his dedication to the LGBT Giving Circle, and now serves as the chair of the Foundation’s Professional Advisors Liaison Committee. Marcus has been instrumental in raising funds for the Foundation’s Joel Ajavon Memorial Scholarship, after Joel, a close family friend, died as a result of a drunk driver related accident. His commitment to access to quality health care also brought him to the board of Trillium Health where he currently serves as chair of the finance committee and treasurer. Marcus believes volunteerism and philanthropy are essential principals he and his wife are instilling in their two children. “Rochester is such a dynamic community of innovation and new ideas that reflect our giving nature. I feel strongly about contributing to that.”
