Molly Efron Scholarship
Purpose of Scholarship
To support a Monroe County female high school senior planning to attend a four-year college or university to study science, technology, engineering, or math.
Application Period
January 8 through March 8
Number and Size of Awards
Two awards of $1,000 each; paid in one lump sum.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
For a female high school senior who:
- Is graduating from a Monroe County high school, and
- Has been accepted into a STEM major (science, technology, engineering, or math) at an accredited four-year college.
Preference is given to someone with economic hardship.
Application Process
The application process is coordinated by The Women’s Alliance (TWA) at Xerox.
Applications are solicited each year in January-March. Find the application on The Women’s Alliance website.
Committee/Selection Process
The selection process is coordinated through The Women’s Alliance at Xerox. A committee of TWA members reviews applications, selects recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation emails a certificate to The Women’s Alliance for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring.
Checks are made payable to the recipient and mailed to the recipient’s permanent home address by the Community Foundation. NOTE: Award recipients are responsible for completing a Scholarship Expense Report detailing the use of scholarship funds. Complete form no later than February 15.
Renewability
This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
Donor Information
The TWA Molly Efron Scholarship fund was created by The Women’s Alliance in memory of Molly Efron, an early member of the Alliance and a role model for technical women at Xerox Corp. She pioneered a job-sharing program at Xerox in order to stay home with her first daughter, Eve.
