Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial aid to vocal students enrolled at The Hochstein School.

Application Period

Contact The Hochstein School beginning in November to learn more about this scholarship opportunity

Number and Size of Awards

Up to four awards of $450 each; paid in one lump sum.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses at The Hochstein School.

Eligibility Criteria

For students who are of high school age or younger, not college or adult level. This is a need-based scholarship. Consideration may be given to skill level and earnestness, and preference is given to a tenor or baritone, or students with an interest in musical theater. Preference is given to student with financial need

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by The Hochstein School (50 N. Plymouth Avenue, Rochester, NY 14614), where application instructions are available if applicable.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through The Hochstein School, which reviews applications, selects the recipients, and informs the Community Foundation.

Note: Recipients are selected by the school based on their financial need, which is determined when registering for vocal classes.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient's account.

Renewability

This scholarship is not renewable; however, students may reapply for a second scholarship if they are eligible.


Donor Information

This award is made possible through a fund established by family and friends in memory of Joseph S. Parungao, a musical theater actor who died in September 1999. Joseph was a born actor, landing a key role in a Blackfriars Theatre production at age 14.
