Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial assistance to students with profound hearing loss for the expenses associated with pursuing higher education.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $10,000 each to one student at Rochester School for the Deaf and one student within the eight-county region.

Award is divided into equal annual installments paid over four consecutive years of undergraduate study and is paid in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For graduating seniors who:

• Have profound hearing loss,
• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and
• Are accepted into a four-year bachelor's program by an accredited institution of higher learning.

Preference is given to applicants with financial need.

Application Process

For All Students: the open application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation, and this scholarship is grouped with other scholarships in our Consolidated Scholarship Application. This means that by completing this one application, you will automatically be considered for any and all other scholarships connected to the Consolidated Application.

For Rochester School for the Deaf Students: the application process is coordinated by the school, where application instructions are available if applicable.

Committee/Selection Process

The open application selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee of Community Foundation staff and community representatives reviews applications and selects the recipients.

The Rochester School for the Deaf selection process is coordinated through the school. A committee of Rochester School for the Deaf faculty and staff reviews applications, selects the recipients, and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in April. For the scholarship selected through the high school, the Community Foundation also emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient.Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the initial scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment in a bachelor's degree program to the Community Foundation’s online Consolidated Scholarship Application, or the Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form if selected by the high school, between July 1 and August 15.

To release subsequent scholarship payments for all recipients, upload the requested and required information including your unofficial transcript, class schedule, tuition bill, and the Dale Lawrence and Rosalie Viener Rockwell Scholarship Renewal Form verifying continued enrollment in a bachelor's degree program and a minimum 3.0 GPA to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information.
