Tomaino Family Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial support to students at Aquinas Institute of Rochester, McQuaid Jesuit High School, and Our Lady of Mercy High School.

Application Period

Nomination information is shared with nominee; application period is from December 1 – March 4.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $1,500 to a recipient at each school; award paid in one lump sum in the Fall.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with private school.

Eligibility Criteria

For students at Aquinas Institute of Rochester, McQuaid Jesuit High School, and Our Lady of Mercy High School who:

• Are currently enrolled in grades 8 through 11;
• Participate in community service activities;
• Demonstrate academic achievement; and
• Have financial need.

Preference may be given to students who previously attended Rochester City School District.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. The Community Foundation invites Aquinas Institute of Rochester, McQuaid Jesuit High School, and Our Lady of Mercy High School to nominate three students to complete an application. Each school provides nominees with an application access code to use in the Scholarship Portal.

Nominated students: To begin an application or continue working, log in to your account. Applications are due on March 4.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee comprised of Community Foundation staff, community members, and family representatives reviews applications, interviews applicants, and selects the recipients.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification to the recipient in the Summer. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in the Fall.

Renewability

This scholarship is not renewable; however, students may be nominated each year they are eligible.
