The selection process is coordinated through the Honeoye Central High School. A selection committee comprised of at least three members of Honeoye Central High School faculty and staff, and which may include one member of the Gordon family, reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.
Interviews may be requested. The selection will not be based on final grades; the 80 percent cumulative grade is for pre-screening purposes only. The essay and interview are weighted equally. The interview questions posed by the scholarship selection committee show the importance of personality in the selection process.

The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. The scholarship is applied to the Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient's account once required documentation is received.
To release scholarship payments after successful completion of the first, third, fifth, and seventh semesters, send an un/official transcript or the Sally Gordon Memorial Scholarship Academic Verification/Renewal Form to the Community Foundation verifying continued full-time enrollment and good standing.
