Reineman Family Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes and provides financial support to graduating high school students who participate in Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection.

Application Period

December 1 to May 1

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $8,000; paid as $2,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Award paid in the Fall semester.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For a graduating high school senior who:

  • Has a minimum of two years active participation in Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection;
  • Has maintained steady employment for at least two years;
  • Is diligent in his/her studies and has a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in grades 9 to 12;
  • Is accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning; and
  • Has financial need.

Important: consideration is given to students with significant school and community service participation activities (above the Work-Scholarship Connection's mandatory volunteer hours). Preference will be given to students who work for companies that do not already provide scholarship assistance to Work-Scholarship program participants.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, where application instructions are available if applicable.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection. A committee of representatives from Hillside reviews applications, selects the recipient, and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails a certificate to Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. The scholarship is payable once per academic year and can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and August 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Payment is made to the school for the recipient's account once required documentation is received.

To release the initial scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript to the Community Foundation verifying full-time enrollment in a two- or four-year college. To release subsequent scholarship payments, send an un/official transcript or the Reineman Family Scholarship Renewal Form to the Community Foundation verifying continued full-time enrollment in a two- or four-year college and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Scholarships not claimed in the assigned semester will be forfeited.


This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information.
