Patrick J. Kelly II Memorial Award
Purpose of Scholarship
To provide an award for graduating seniors of Webster Thomas High School who exemplify the characteristics of Patrick Kelly and who plan to go on to college.
Application Period
Contact Webster Thomas High School Counseling Center after February break to learn more about this scholarship opportunity.
Number and Size of Awards
Two awards of $1,000 each; paid in one lump sum directly to the recipient.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
For a Webster Thomas High School graduating senior who:
- Exemplifies leadership in high school;
- Shows consistent academic accomplishment and/or improvement;
- Is involved in extracurricular activities or athletic endeavors;
- Participates in volunteer or community service activities; and
- Displays good character (integrity, credibility, respect, good citizenship, and ethics).
Application Process
The application process is coordinated by the Webster Thomas High School Counseling Center, where application instructions are available for eligible students.
Committee/Selection Process
The selection process is coordinated through Webster Thomas High School. A committee comprised of one representatives from the Webster Central School District, and two citizens of the greater Rochester area reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation sends a certificate and payment to the high school for presentation to the recipient. Recipients are provided with instructions on how to submit documentation on how the award was used.
Renewability
This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
Donor Information
This scholarship was established to memorialize Patrick J. Kelly II, who succumbed to cancer in March 2003 at too young an age. He was a person of great integrity, giving 100 percent to everything he did - fatherhood, school, football, work, and play. Webster Thomas High School in Webster, NY played a major role in Pat's development and preparation for his years at Syracuse University and beyond. After his death, family and friends established this fund to provide scholarships to Webster Thomas High School graduates who exemplify his characteristics.
