Jennifer Grimes Lindley Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

The Jennifer Grimes Lindley Scholarship recognizes and awards young women residing in Monroe and Yates counties who intend to continue education beyond high school, preferably in the field of engineering.

Application Period

December 1 to First Friday in May

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $1,000 to both a Monroe County and Yates County recipient, plus a four-year student and four-year virtual membership to the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Award paid in one lump sum in the Fall semester.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For female graduating high school seniors whose permanent residence is in Monroe or Yates counties and who:

  • Are pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering at any two- or four-year college;
  • Have significant financial need; and
  • Demonstrate community involvement.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) at 494 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607, where applications are also available.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the AAUW. The AAUW Educational Loan Fund of the Greater Rochester Area Branch reviews applications, selects the recipients, and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation mails a letter to the recipient with instructions to claim the award, along with an invitation to a small reception at the American Association of University Women (AAUW) on East Avenue, where the scholarship will be presented. Family members are invited to attend.

NOTE: Award recipients are responsible for completing the Jennifer Grimes Lindley Expense Report Form detailing the purchases made using the scholarship funds. This completed form is due to the Community Foundation no later than February 15.


This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.

Donor Information

This scholarship was established by the Lindley family in memory of their daughter, Jennifer Grimes Lindley. Jennifer was a very bright student who eventually obtained her electrical engineering degree in her mid-30s. This scholarship recognizes those women who choose to continue their education in the field of engineering and science.
