James H. L. Gallagher Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial assistance for a graduating senior from Palmyra-Macedon High School.

Contact school counselor beginning in March to learn more about this scholarship opportunity

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $1,000; paid in one lump sum in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For a graduating senior from Palmyra-Macedon High School who demonstrates:

  • Qualities of honesty;
  • Affability; and
  • Application to studies.

Work goals, community service, school activities, and other scholarship opportunities are considered. Grades and financial need are not criteria for this award.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by Palmyra-Macedon High School Counseling Office, where application instructions are available if applicable.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Palmyra-Macedon High School. The Palmyra-Macedon Chapter of Dollars for Scholars reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying full-time enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.

Other

Dollars for Scholars policy states that if a scholarship recipient does not submit verification of enrollment for the Fall semester or fails to share information about a delay in college attendance plans by November 1, the scholarship will be awarded to the first alternate.


Donor Information

This scholarship was established in 1989 by Wayne County resident Velma P. Gallagher through a testamentary gift in memory of her husband James H. L. Gallagher.
