Harvey E. Anderson Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To be awarded to students who participate in Section V sports, have been diligent in academic and athletic endeavors, and exhibit self-motivation and extraordinary effort.

Application Period

Contact sports coach in October/November. Nominations are due November 15; applications are due January 15.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $4,000 to both a male and a female athlete; paid as $1,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Additionally, one non-renewable award of $1,000 to both a male and a female runner-up. Runner-up Award paid in one lump sum in the Fall semester.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For college-bound graduating seniors who have participated in athletics at Section V schools. Each school in Section V may select one male and one female student to complete the application. Applicants need not be the best natural athletes or scholars, but should demonstrate “110 percent” effort in studies and chosen sports. Financial need may be considered, but is not a determining factor.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation and Section V. Each eligible school nominates one male and one female to complete the application. After all of the nominations are collected, the Community Foundation sends an email inviting students to complete the online application.

Interested Students: Please see your coach or counselor in September or October to learn more about this scholarship.

Nominated students: To begin an application or continue working, log in to your account. Applications due January 15.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Section V. A committee comprised of Section V representatives and other community members reviews applications and selects recipient(s). Finalists may be interviewed by the committee.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient.

The scholarship is payable once per academic year and can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and August 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account once required documentation is received.

To release the initial “winner” or one-time “runner-up” (when applicable) scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation.

To release subsequent “winner” scholarship payments, send an un/official transcript or the Harvey E. Anderson Scholarship Renewal Form verifying continued enrollment and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.

Renewability

The “winner” scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four consecutive annual awards.. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information. Note: Runner-up scholarships are a one-time awards and are not renewable.

Donor Information

This scholarship was established in 1987 by Harvey E. Anderson, former president of the Rochester Coca-Cola Bottling Company and longtime supporter of local sports activities, to reward young people’s good citizenship, self-motivation, achievement, and concern for others.
