Harvey E. Anderson Scholarship
Purpose of Scholarship
To be awarded to students who participate in Section V sports, have been diligent in academic and athletic endeavors, and exhibit self-motivation and extraordinary effort.
Contact sports coach in October. Nominations are due November 1; applications are due January 15.
Number and Size of Awards
One award of $1,000 to both a male and a female athlete; renewable annually for a maximum total award of $4,000. New for 2020: One non-renewable award of $1,000 to both a male and a female runner-up.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
For college-bound graduating seniors who have participated in athletics at Section V schools. Each school in Section V may select one male and one female student to complete the application. Applicants need not be the best natural athletes or scholars, but should demonstrate “110 percent” effort in studies and chosen sports. Financial need may be considered, but is not a determining factor.
The selection process is coordinated through Section V. A committee comprised of Section V representatives and other community members reviews applications and selects recipient(s). Finalists may be interviewed by the committee.
The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation and Section V. Each eligible school nominates one male and one female to complete the application. After all of the nominations are collected, the Community Foundation sends an email inviting students to complete the online application.

Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation mails a letter with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account once required documentation is received.
The scholarship is payable once per academic year and can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and September 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and March 15). Scholarships not claimed by March 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.
To release the initial “winner” or one-time “runner-up” (when applicable) scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation.
To release subsequent “winner” scholarship payments, send an un/official transcript or the Harvey E. Anderson Scholarship Renewal Form verifying continued enrollment and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
The “winner” scholarship is renewable for a total of four awards. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information. Note: Runner-up scholarships are a one-time awards and are not renewable.
This scholarship was established in 1987 by Harvey E. Anderson, former president of the Rochester Coca-Cola Bottling Company and longtime supporter of local sports activities, to reward young people’s good citizenship, self-motivation, achievement, and concern for others.
