Frank Commisso Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

For academically talented and community-minded high school graduates continuing their education.

Application Period

November 1 to First Friday in May

Number and Size of Awards

$6,000 split between two or more recipients; paid in one lump sum in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. Minimum award $500.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For graduating seniors from Monroe County high schools who:

• Demonstrate academic excellence (at least a 3.0 GPA);
• Show school/community involvement;
• Display good character;
• Have financial need.

Application Process

The nomination process is coordinated by high school Counseling offices. Applications can be found below.

After receiving the completed applications, each high school reviews applications and selects one student who best meets the criteria of this scholarship. These applications are forwarded to Jeffrey Wexler at Irondequoit Country Club, 4045 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the Irondequoit Country Club. A scholarship selection committee comprised of community members and one Country Club representative reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in April. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying full-time enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
