Elizabeth Schmidt Nursing Scholarship
Purpose of Scholarship
To provide financial assistance to graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners for the expenses associated with higher education.
December 1 to March 1
Number and Size of Awards
Two awards of $18,000 each; paid as $6,000 per year for up to three consecutive years of graduate study. Award paid in the Fall semester.
Allowed Use of Award
For expenses of higher education
For graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners who:
- Reside in Monroe, Ontario, Seneca or Yates County;
- Plan to attend a college or university in one of the above counties;
- Plan to matriculate to a nurse practitioner program;
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; and
- Have financial need.
The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation, and this scholarship is grouped with other scholarships in our Consolidated Scholarship Application. This means that by completing this one application, you will automatically be considered for any and all other scholarships connected to the Consolidated Application.

The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee of Community Foundation staff and community representatives reviews applications and selects recipients.
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. The scholarship is payable once per academic year and can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and August 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account once required documentation is received.
To release the initial scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript to the Community Foundation verifying enrollment in a four-year college or university specializing in business management. To release subsequent scholarship payments, send an un/official transcript or the Elizabeth Schmidt Nursing Scholarship Renewal Form to the Community Foundation verifying continued enrollment in a nursing or nurse practitioner program at local college or university and a minimum 3.0 GPA.
This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years.

This scholarship was created by the estate of Elizabeth Schmidt to provide scholarships for nursing students and graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners from Monroe, Ontario, Seneca and Yates Counties to attend colleges and universities in the same four county area.
