Elizabeth Schmidt Nursing Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial assistance to graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners for the expenses associated with higher education.

Application Period

November 1 to February 1

Number and Size of Awards

Two awards of $18,000 each; paid as $6,000 per year for up to three consecutive years of graduate study. Award paid in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

For expenses of higher education

Eligibility Criteria

For graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners who:

  • Reside in Monroe, Ontario, Seneca or Yates County;
  • Plan to attend a college or university in one of the above counties;
  • Plan to matriculate to a nurse practitioner program;
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; and
  • Have financial need.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation, and this scholarship is grouped with other scholarships in our Consolidated Scholarship Application. This means that by completing this one application, you will automatically be considered for any and all other scholarships connected to the Consolidated Application.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee of Community Foundation staff and community representatives reviews applications and selects recipients.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in April. Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the initial scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment in a a nurse practitioner program to the Community Foundation’s online Consolidated Scholarship Application between July 1 and August 15.

To release subsequent scholarship payments, upload the requested and required information including your unofficial transcript, class schedule, tuition bill, and the Elizabeth Schmidt Nursing Scholarship Renewal Form verifying continued enrollment in a nurse practitioner program at local college or university and a minimum 3.0 GPA to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years.

Donor Information

This scholarship was created by the estate of Elizabeth Schmidt to provide scholarships for nursing students and graduate nursing students studying to become nurse practitioners from Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, and Yates Counties to attend colleges and universities in the same four county area.
