The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee comprised of Community Foundation staff and community representatives reviews applications and selects the recipient(s).

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. The scholarship can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and August 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript verifying full-time enrollment to the Community Foundation. Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.

This scholarship is not renewable; however, students may reapply each year they are eligible, for a total of four awards.

**Important Notes on Applying for the Bullis Family Scholarship**

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the application is complete and submitted; the Community Foundation does not follow up on incomplete applications and the system does not send reminder messages. Incomplete applications must be corrected and submitted before the February 28 deadline to be considered. Please check the application website often to ensure your completed application has been received. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

  • If a student has attended more than one school during the year, proper documentation that he/she meets the criteria must be provided from both schools.
  • If the request is forwarded to the school to complete and submit, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the request is completed and submitted to the Community Foundation before the February 28 deadline. It is increasingly important to send the request early and check the application website to ensure your form has been received.

**Important Notes for Recipients of the Bullis Family Scholarship**

Students may only receive a total of four awards (or eight installments for split payments) in a five-year period after graduation.

This applies if the award is deferred or if the student is ineligible to receive the award in any given semester, graduates in less than four years, or continues enrollment longer than four or five years. After four awards (or eight installments for split payments) are provided, there are no more opportunities to receive this award, and after five years, all remaining awards are forfeited.

If an award is returned by the school because the student did not meet the eligibility criteria, the award will be saved and may be used for enrollment in a ninth or tenth semester of a continued undergraduate program. If the student withdraws from school, attends less than full time, or graduates early, they will only receive scholarship support for the semesters that they were enrolled and remained eligible.
