Cuvelier Family Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide scholarships to high school seniors in Wayne County who will be attending a four-year college or university in New York State.

Application Period

Contact school counselor in December. Nominations are due January 15; applications are due March 1.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $20,000; paid in equal annual installments over four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Award may be split between two or more students and is paid in the Fall semester.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For graduating Wayne County high school seniors who:

  • Are planning to attend any four-year college or university in New York State;
  • Are involved in school or community activities;
  • Are diligent, hardworking, and have grade averages of 80 to 90 percent (2.7 GPA) or higher; and
  • Have financial need (primary consideration).

Preference may be given to students whose degree will serve and/or benefit the community.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. The Community Foundation invites each high school in Wayne County to nominate TWO students to complete an application. After all of the nominations are collected, the Community Foundation sends an email inviting students to complete the online application.

Nominated students: To begin an application or continue working, log in to your account. Applications due March 1.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee comprised of Community Foundation staff, family members, and community representatives reviews applications and selects the recipient(s). Applicants may be interviewed as part of the selection process.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in two equal installments for the Fall and Spring semesters.

To release the initial Fall semester payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript between July 1 and August 15 to the Community Foundation verifying full-time enrollment at a four-year college or university in New York State.

To release the Spring semester and subsequent semester payments, send an un/official transcript or the Cuvelier Family Scholarship Renewal Form between December 1 and February 15 to the Community Foundation verifying continued full-time enrollment at a four-year college or university in New York State and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.

Renewability

This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information.

Donor Information

This scholarship was established in 1995 by Elinor M. Cuvelier, a longtime resident of Wayne County, in honor of her family.
