Cuvelier Family Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide scholarships to high school seniors in Wayne County who will be attending a four-year college or university in New York State.

Application Period

Contact school counselor for nomination information. Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis; applications are due March 4.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $20,000; divided into equal annual installments paid over four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Award may be split between two or more students and is paid in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. Minimum award $1,000.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For graduating Wayne County high school seniors who:

  • Are planning to attend any four-year college or university in New York State;
  • Are involved in school or community activities;
  • Are diligent, hardworking, and have grade averages of 80 to 90 percent (2.7 GPA) or higher; and
  • Have financial need (primary consideration).

Preference may be given to students whose degree will serve and/or benefit the community.

Application Process

This scholarship accepts nominations from specific schools only.

The Community Foundation invites each high school in Wayne County to nominate TWO students to complete an application. Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis; applications are due March 4.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee comprised of Community Foundation staff, family members, and community representatives reviews applications and selects the recipient(s). Applicants may be interviewed as part of the selection process.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in April. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the initial scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying full-time enrollment at a four-year college or university in New York State to the Community Foundation’s online Consolidated Scholarship Application between July 1 and August 15.

To release subsequent scholarship payments, upload the requested and required information including your unofficial transcript, class schedule and tuition bill to verify continued full-time enrollment at a four-year college or university in New York State and a minimum 3.0 GPA to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years. Please see the Award Announcement and Payment section above for more information.

This scholarship was established in 1995 by Elinor M. Cuvelier, a longtime resident of Wayne County, in honor of her family.
