Chuck Tuttle Scholarship
Purpose of Scholarship
To assist accomplished graduates of the Rochester City School District who are motivated to attend college and need financial support to obtain either an Associates or Bachelors degrees from SUNY schools with the goal of employment and economic self sufficiency.
Application Period
December 1 to February 28
Number and Size of Awards
One award of $12,000 to a student enrolling full-time in a bachelor’s degree program; paid as $3,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Plus, one award of up to $4,000 to a student enrolling fulltime in an associate degree program paid as $2,000 per year for up to two consecutive years of undergraduate study. Award paid in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
For graduating seniors from the Rochester City School District who:
- Are planning to enroll fulltime into a two- or four-year college in the SUNY system;
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA for at least two years of high school;
- Are highly motivated to attend college; and
- Demonstrate financial need;

Committee/Selection Process
The selection process is coordinated through the Community Foundation. A committee comprised of Community Foundation staff and community representatives reviews applications and selects recipient(s).
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring. Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.
To release the initial scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying fulltime enrollment in a two- or four-year college or university within the SUNY system to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15.
To release subsequent scholarship payments, upload the requested and required information including your unofficial transcript, class schedule, tuition bill to verify continued fulltime enrollment in a two- or four-year college or university within the SUNY system and a minimum 2.5 GPA to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15.
Renewability
The four-year scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four awards in four consecutive years of undergraduate study. The two-year scholarship is renewable one time for a total of two awards in two consecutive years of undergraduate study. Donor Information
A retired Rochester City School District science teacher established this scholarship to assist motivated students who have financial need and plan to attend the State University College at Brockport for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
