Brighton Retirees' Scholarship Fund
Purpose of Scholarship
To provide financial assistance to a Brighton High School student pursuing a career in education.
Application Period
December 1 to April 1
Number and Size of Awards
One award of $1,500; paid in one lump sum in the Fall semester.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
For a graduating senior from Brighton High School who:
- Is pursuing a degree in the field of education as a classroom teacher or support services staff member;
- Has a minimum 3.0 GPA (B average) or higher; and
- Demonstrates financial need.
Application Process
The application process is coordinated by the Brighton High School Counseling Office, where applications instructions are also available.
Committee/Selection Process
The selection process is coordinated through the Brighton High School Guidance Office. A school committee of administrators, teachers, and counselors reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient. The scholarship can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and August 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and February 15). Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient's account once required documentation is received.
To release the scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript to the Community Foundation verifying full-time enrollment in an education-related program. Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.
Renewability
This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
Donor Information
The Brighton Retirees' Association established this scholarship fund to give back to the Brighton Central School District. Their legacy will provide financial assistance to a senior student pursuing a career in the field of education as a classroom teacher or in a support services role.
