Barbara Wheeler Schneider Memorial Scholarship
Purpose of Scholarship
For a graduating senior of Arkport High School going on to college.
Application Period
Contact school counselor beginning in November to learn more about this scholarship opportunity
Number and Size of Awards
One award of $1,000; may be split between two recipients. Award paid in one lump sum.
Allowed Use of Award
Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
For a graduating senior from Arkport High School who demonstrates:
- Scholastic ability, and
- Concern for fellow classmates during his or her time in the Arkport Central School District.
Application Process
The application process is coordinated through the Arkport High School Counseling Office, where application instructions are available if applicable.
Committee/Selection Process
The selection process is coordinated through Arkport High School. A committee comprised of Arkport Central School District faculty and former classmates of Barbara Wheeler Schneider reviews applications, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.
Award Announcement and Payment
The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.
To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.
Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.
Renewability
This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.
Donor Information
This award was established in memory of Barbara Wheeler Schneider by her husband. Barbara was salutatorian of her high school class and president of Arkport Central School Honor Society and graduated cum laude from St. John Fisher College with a degree in communications. The following year she married, and six weeks after the wedding, she was killed in an automobile accident.
