You can sustain vital and diverse arts and culture organizations across eight counties by giving to the Arts & Culture Fund.

Evening Out showcases a dozen artists and nonprofits from across the region. They are listed below in order of appearance.

Latin Acoustic

Various Puerto Rican songs.

A dynamic and heartfelt musical project lead by Anthony Santiago Canchani brings vibrant Puerto Rican music to life. Anthony leads a variety of ensembles, including 3, 4, 6, and 8-piece groups.

CITY Magazine

Emcee

Leah is CITY Magazine’s editor-in-chief and the producer of Rochester Cocktail Revival. She’s passionate about food, travel, and theatre. CITY has been highlighting the very best of our region’s arts, music, and culture scene since 1971.

Casey Arthur

Live painting.

Casey is a visual artist who in 2019 founded Muck Duck Studios, a community space for artists in Rochester that seeks to unite people through arts and culture.

Ballet

Founded by Timothy M. Draper in 1987, it has become the only professional ballet company in Western New York with a mission to create inspiring, entertaining and educational experiences through the art of dance.

Music in Rochester

Excerpt from “Anastasiawith music from Tchaikovsky, Glière, and Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko.

Presenting chamber music concerts to reach and teach students of all ages and inspires chamber music’s ongoing creation through composition competitions and commissions since 1977. The Chamber is led by Artistic Directors Juliana Athayde and Erik Behr.

Creative Artists Migrant Program Services

Various artworks by farmworker artists.

Founded in 1975, this program of Genesee Valley Council on the Arts provides art workshops for migrant farmworkers and families, who are predominantly Hispanic, across eight counties. CAMPS is led by director Julia Stewart-Bittle.

Lamar the
Therapist

“Do a Lot”, original album.

Hip-hop artist, licensed psychotherapist, organizer, and Rochesterian whose independent label, Mental Wealth Records, LLC, chronicles his criminal justice and advocacy work. He has worked behind the walls of Sing Sing and Riker’s Island as a forensic case manager and now provides therapy through Sankofa Family Counseling Services as a licensed mental health counselor.

Mount Hope
World Singers

“Lua, Lua, Lua,” features music by Brazilian composer Esther Scliar and text by poet Lucia Candall; “Wau Bulan” is a traditional folk song arranged by Malaysian composer Tracy Wong.

The choir, led by Conductor Brian White and Artistic Director Annika Bentley, seeks to build community and foster intercultural understanding through performance in original languages from around the globe.

BIODANCE

Excerpt from “Turning Point,” a work-in-progress piece which considers the reciprocal relationship of humans and the environment, inspired by the changing seasons at Turning Point Park in Rochester. Choreography by Missy Pfohl Smith with music by Floris Van der Veken.

This contemporary dance company founded in 2002 explores social, political, and environmental issues through its works.

Exploration

Excerpt of “True to Formby choreographer Amya Brice centers around the connection to our roots and is performed by Amya Brice and Sydney Burrows.

This Rochester-based dance company provides a safe space for those looking to move, create, or find a new interest.

Chen Chen,
BOA Editions

“I Invite My Parents to a Dinner Party”

The author of two books of poetry, both published by BOA Editions in Rochester, NY, Chen Chen’s work appears in many publications, including The New York Times and three editions of The Best American Poetry. BOA Editions, founded in 1976, is a nonprofit publisher of poetry books from diverse authors.

Zahyia

“I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5

A dynamic singer from Rochester, NY whose music combines Soul, Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Funk. Her lyrics feature elements of metaphysics, science, and spiritual wisdom from the Baha’i Faith. Zahyia is a must-see live performer, captivating audiences with her groundbreaking sound and infectious energy.
