Rochester Education Foundation (REF) is helping make sure that every student in Rochester and their family know that going to college is one of their options. REF focuses on connecting young people to the information and tools they need to apply to colleges, scholarship opportunities, and financial aid.

This past year, their College Access & Success Program — supported by a $40,000 Community Foundation grant — helped more than 300 students across dozens of Rochester City School District and charter schools complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The FAFSA can be a first step towards reducing the cost of college, serving as a gateway to financial aid, work-study opportunities, and low-interest federal student loans.

A Future Fair for more than 600 7th grade students showcased a variety of career possibilities to increase awareness about the exciting futures that a college experience can unlock.

“Our 7th grade students got to meet more than 60 different professionals from throughout Rochester who are financially independent, like their jobs, and give back to the community,” says Sarah Coe with Rochester City School District.
