Mark L. Sasso Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide need-based financial support for juniors or seniors attending Bishop Kearney High School.

Application Period

April 1 to Second Friday in June

Number and Size of Awards

$11,000 distributed among five or more recipients; paid in one lump sum.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition assistance at Bishop Kearney High School.

Eligibility Criteria

For juniors or seniors at Bishop Kearney High school who:

  • Are hard working and achieve a cumulative average of 80 percent or higher;
  • Show evidence of good character and regularly perform extracurricular or outside community service activities; and
  • Have financial need.

Sophomores who meet the criteria may submit an application; however, first preference is given to eligible juniors or seniors.

The application process is coordinated through Bishop Kearney High School, where application instructions are also available.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Bishop Kearney High School. A committee comprised of two or three members of the Sasso family and three to four high school representatives reviews applications, selects the recipients, and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation mails a letter explaining the award to the recipient in the Fall. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient's account.

Renewability

This scholarship is not renewable; however, students may reapply each year they are eligible.


Donor Information

This scholarship was established by the Sasso family to carry on the memory of their son, Mark L. Sasso. Mark, a 1994 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, was a remarkable, fun-loving, kind, and persistent young man and a great sports enthusiast.
