Heidi Hoenig Memorial Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide an award to a graduating senior from Irondequoit High School who demonstrates high potential for a career in architecture or the arts.

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $3,000; may be split between two or more recipients. Award paid in one lump sum in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. Minimum award $1,000.

Allowed Use of Award

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

For a graduating senior from Irondequoit High School who has:

  • Demonstrated talent in the fields of visual art or architecture;
  • Been accepted into an art or architecture program at a higher educational institution; and
  • Created an art portfolio that exhibits quality, variety, craftsmanship, and creativity (architecture students must also demonstrate proficiency in math and science).

Preference will be given to applicants who also have apprentice work, internships, and/or related extracurricular study and experience.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by the College and Career Center at Irondequoit High School, where application instructions are available for eligible students.

In addition to the application form, each applicant must submit a portfolio of at least 12 pieces of architectural design or artwork.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Irondequoit High School. A school committee that has input from visual and other arts teachers as well as guidance counselors reviews applications and portfolios, selects the recipient(s), and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation emails a certificate to the high school for presentation to the recipient and emails an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in June. Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15.

Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.

Renewability

This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable.


Donor Information

This scholarship was established by family and friends to memorialize Heidi Hoenig, who attended Irondequoit High School in the early 1980s where she excelled in art and had dreams of becoming an architect. Unfortunately, she died before her dreams could be realized.
