Greater Rochester Spelling Bee Award
Purpose of Scholarship
To provide a college scholarship to each of the four winners ( grades 3, 4, 5, and 6) of the annual spelling bee competition organized, hosted and run by the 19th Ward Community Association, Rochester City School District and University of Rochester.

Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

The spelling bee and determination of the winners is coordinated by the 19th Ward Community Association, Rochester City School District and University of Rochester.
Award Announcement and Payment
Winners of the annual spelling bee are provided with an award packet at the conclusion of the spelling bee. The Community Foundation then mails a copy of the spelling bee certificate to each winner along with an information sheet to be completed and returned in the Spring.
After graduating from high school or completing a High School Equivalency program, winners provide documentation to release the scholarship to support higher education expenses. Payment is made to the school for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.
To release the scholarship payment, upload the requested and required information including your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Acceptance and Renewal Form between July 1 and August 15.Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited. Email scholarships@racf.org with any questions or concerns.
Renewability
This scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable; however, some students may win the spelling bee multiple years in a row and receive more than one scholarship.
