Dining Outside — Even When It’s Cold

You may have seen “winter greenhouses” on the sidewalks outside Rochester restaurants.

This was an effort spearheaded by Roc Holiday Village and the City of Rochester to provide 25 city restaurants with additional dining space during the winter and while indoor capacity is limited because of the pandemic.

The Community Foundation co-invested with philanthropist Suzanne Gouvernet to provide $21,000 to support this creative solution. Other funders and sponsors of this program included ESL Federal Credit Union, the Anthony Butera Team, Rochester Regional Health, Mix 100.5, and 13WHAM TV.

Our hope is that these dining greenhouses will prevent our often harsh winter weather from being another obstacle for city restaurants.
