Community Crisis Fund Grants

In response to the local impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, United Way of Greater Rochester and Rochester Area Community Foundation activated the Community Crisis Fund to raise flexible resources to support organizations in our region working with communities disproportionately impacted by coronavirus and the economic consequences of this outbreak.

Phase 1 Funding: This initial phase, which started in March 2020, specifically addressed immediate needs of two groups:

  • Front-line human services organizations addressing the economic impact of the COVID-19 outbreak; and
  • Economically vulnerable populations affected by pandemic-related closures that needed food, shelter, clothing, childcare, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, etc.

Phase 2 Funding: Starting in August 2020, this phase supported nonprofit organizations experiencing severe financial hardship because of costs associated with reopening or maintaining safe operations with a focus on equity. Priority status was given to organizations:

  • Led by people of color as well as those with staff and board leadership reflecting the communities they serve; and
  • That can demonstrate at least 75 percent of those they serve fall within the priority populations (Black, Latinx, refugees, migrants, rural communities, people with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, and older adults).

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of our region, 282 grants totaling $6,826,615 were awarded between March 2020 and January 2021. This is a complete list of the grant recipients in alphabetical order and grant totals for each. Numbers in parentheses indicate number of grants if the organization received more than one:
