The Henry and Lorraine Brierly Memorial Scholarship

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide scholarships to graduating students from the Massena Central High School in St. Lawrence County.

Deadline

April 15

Number and Size of Awards

One award of $1,000; may be split between two recipients.

Allowed Use of Award

For expenses associated with higher education

Eligibility Criteria

For graduating Massena Central High School seniors who:

  • Plan to attend a four-year college or university;
  • Will be enrolled full time; and
  • Are planning to major in education.

Application Process

The application process is coordinated by Massena Central High School, where application instructions are available.

Committee/Selection Process

The selection process is handled by Massena Central High School. A scholarship selection committee reviews applications, selects a recipient, and informs the Community Foundation.

Award Announcement and Payment

An award letter with instructions to claim the award is sent to the recipient. The scholarship can be applied to either the Fall semester (between July 1 and October 15) or Spring semester (between December 1 and March 15). Payment is mailed to the school for the recipient's account once required documentation is received.

To release the scholarship payment, send a class schedule or un/official transcript verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation. Scholarships not claimed by March 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.

Renewability

This is a one-time award and is not renewable.


Donor Information

This scholarship honors Henry and Lorraine Brierly, who met at SUNY Plattsburgh and shared a love of teaching and serving the community. Both taught in the Massena Central School District for many years, where they created warm, safe, and nurturing classrooms for their students.
