Your Help Needed
Expanding summer learning for special education teens
A Charlotte High School special education teacher seeks funding for her Extended School Year Summer Program for 35 to 50 students in grades 8 to 12, whose curriculum typically focuses on life skills. Genesee Country Village & Museum will partner with this group for the six-week program. Students will learn about and experience components of 19th Century life, including apprenticeships and baseball, gardening and nutrition, guided nature walks, the Underground Railroad, and government and civic participation. The teens also will help with chores around the museum buildings and Nature Center and work in craft and trade areas. The museum will cover half of the transportation and admission costs. Funding is sought for the remaining half ($4,600).
