Community Issues

The greater Rochester area prides itself on being a community where people work together to tackle tough community problems.  Partnerships made up of government and private funders, researchers, nonprofit service providers and private citizens address a range of issues from early childhood education (where Rochester’s system is a national model) to childhood lead poisoning (where dozens of experts are working to address Rochester’s devastating problem).

For its part, Rochester Area Community Foundation helps set community priorities and provides strategic grants that lead to broad, long-lasting improvements for Rochester citizens. We provide grants in many areas, but focus on early childhood, after-school programs, and building social capital through civic engagement.

Our Community in Action

From prenatal care through good nutrition and walking clubs, preventing disease has much to do with staying healthy.

The Doctor Will See You Now ...
The Community Foundation and other funders jointly supported the Health-e-Access Project which recently garnered national attention. Located at child care centers, the program serves low-income parents and children by providing high-quality medical consultation via sophisticated interactive technology. The project study conclusions are quite interesting.
