This contest, a new twist that accompanied our 2007 An Evening Out At Home event, asked local youth to let us in on what they love about our wonderful city. The winning essay, below, was prominently featured on our main page, and young Mr. Wilson received media attention for presenting such an inspiring, engaging, and enthusiastic response.
There are many reasons I love Rochester, New York. The very first reason I love Rochester is because of the little league teams, Pop Warner football, and recreation center leagues they teach youth how to have leadership and good sportsmanship while playing something they love, and the recreation centers give little kids something to do instead of playing around in the streets and cause trouble to people and their property. Second, I love Rochester because of the fair and the parades which give kids, and parent’s time to bond. I also love downtown and the old buildings mixed with new by the Genesee River.
Winner: Donald Wilson, age 17, continues his reasons; and other young voices chime in ...
